The place is quoted from 1080. It is then a priory where the monks met for prayer. The chapel, in its current form, was built in 1635. Fishermen made it their place of pilgrimage on Whit Monday. Visible from afar at sea, "Notre-Dame du Bon Secours" watched over them during their marine journeys. From the 19th century, cenotaphs (tombs without bodies) were erected along the path leading to the chapel, making it one of the most picturesque marine cemeteries on the coast, in the green setting of La Clape.
