The imposing fortifications of the city of Carcassonne occupy a rocky outcrop which dominates the course of the Aude.
Occupied since the 1000th century BC, Carcassonne was a Roman city before becoming a medieval city. It bears witness to 2500 years of military architecture and XNUMX years of history. The final defense, the count's castle was built in the XNUMXth century by the Trencavel, viscounts of Carcassonne, and was constantly modified over the following centuries.
A rich and varied tour is offered, including many exclusive spaces: ramparts, hoardings, projection room, lapidary depot. New tour itinerary includes the complete tour of the ramparts, with 360° view, from the Pyrenees to the vineyards, inside the city.
Guided conference and discovery tours with or without reservation, or audio guides available in several languages.
Free entry on the 1st Sunday of each month (November to March).
The ticket office closes 45 mins before (from April to September) and 30 mins before (from October to March).
